They came to America in order to practice their religion freely. Although from our perspective now their attitudes and beliefs might seem zeoulous and ridiculous, their beliefs and independence helped establish the freedoms and religious ideas present today throughout the nation. They were an independent people who survived together in a new land and whose simple, austere ways are still seen as virtues in many cultures and religions today.
