How To Deal With Study Stress

Many students these days are motivated to get good grades in school, partly because of competition, pressure from adults, and need to really succeed in life. However, they also need to take some study breaks, mainly for the betterment of their health and well-being, and to relieve stress.
Why Take a Break?
Contrary to popular belief, humans do have an incredible maximum potential. We can really push ourselves to the limit. However, once we’re able to cross such limit, we can feel ourselves breaking down.
When you’re intensely studying without taking breaks, you’re making yourself prone to chronic stress, which can be extremely harmful to your body. One it affects your liver, which does not only detoxify the body but also controls your stress hormones. Chronic stress leads to the bypass of the liver, allowing a hormone known as corticoids to run free. In the process, you experience a decrease in immune system and you’re vulnerable to a variety of illnesses and infection.
Chronic stress also increases the level of acid in the stomach, which forces you to feel two things: hunger and stomach pain if these acids get into the linings or the walls. In fact, stress can make you fat, as it also reduces your metabolism. Stress damages your sleeping pattern, so you wake up with a fogged mind, poor memory, and decreased positive emotions.
A lot of studies have also revealed that chronic stress affects the brain, as it shrinks it. Kids who are under too much stress also age prematurely and are leaning toward depressive symptoms.
Three Ways to Deal with Study Stress
It’s normal for any student to feel stress, but you should learn to control it. Here are three ways:
1. Take a study break.
Remember that cliché, “No work and no play makes John [or Jane] a very dull person”? It’s actually true! Too much of something isn’t good for both your mind and physical health. In fact, you’ll discover that spending all your time studying only makes you feel so burned out quickly. Study breaks don’t have to be long. They can be as short as a few minutes away from books and notes. The most important thing is you can rejuvenate and relax.
2. Get rid of the unnecessary things.
Do you really need the mobile phone while you study? Perhaps you don’t unless you’re using an app that helps you become more productive. Unnecessary technologies can only take your mind away from what you’re doing. When it’s time to concentrate on the lessons, then make sure nothing else steals your attention unless it’s classified as an emergency.
3. Avoid the eleventh hour.
A lot of students cram, but it’s never a good idea. One, it turns on the inner panic button, so you can’t expect to retain all the needed information in your mind. Second, you can lose your sense of judgment, so you may end up not covering important lessons. Third, it doesn’t give you any rest. When you’re physically tired, your mind feels the exhaustion, and before you know it, you can’t think straight anymore.
