Sadder because it's definitely quite frightening and scary tale of the ancient mariner; his punishment, perennial penance for the sin he committed from which it looked as though he got redemption; but it wasn't in totality. Wiser because the wedding guest after hearing the tale learnt about God's way of delivering justice to the sinful mankind, who like the ancient mariner couldn't understand the equality with which God adored all his creation, and impulsively killed the albatross.
